March Madness:
11:31 AM Monday, March 15, 2010

It's second only to the Super Bowl in terms of big sporting events in Las Vegas -- beginning this Thursday, expect every sports book and bar to go crazy as March Madness kicks -- or rather bounces -- off.

  • According to an LVA reader poll, the top venues for catching a major sporting event in Vegas are as follows:
    1. Caesars Palace - race & sports book
    2. New York-New York - ESPN Zone
    3. Las Vegas Hilton - SuperBook
    4. Orleans - race & sports book
    5. Green Valley Ranch - race & sports book

As far as wagering on the games is concerned, click this link for the Best Bet Sports Books, both in Las Vegas and offshore, as recommended by the handicapping gurus at LVASports.com.

  • Viewing party-wise, there are lots of options to choose from. Here are some of the hotspots:
    • Fremont Street Experience is hosting a month-long hoopfest, with drinks specials at all the casinos, the world's largest NCAA bracket on the Viva Vision canopy, nightly performances from two sexy new stage acts called the Hardwood Hotties and Dream Team Divas, and an interactive area where visitors can test their skills at a 30-foot hoop.
    • Primm Valley Casino Resorts slam dunk into the mayhem with a viewing party March 18-21, with food and drink specials including $1 nachos, hot dogs, shrimp cocktails, and draft Bud/Bud Light, plus contests and nightly drawings in the sports books. The March Mayhem party is free and open to all aged 21+.
    • Downtown's El Cortez is celebrating the contest with four days of "Beer, Brats, and Baskets" in the Fiesta Room. Enjoy daily $1 and $2 food and drink specials.
    • At Imperial Palace on the Strip, Rockhouse is going hoop crazy March 16 through April 5, broadcasting the games on 28 big screens and offering drink specials including 2-for-1 domestic beers. There will be on-going beer pong competitions from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. for the duration.
    • The Las Vegas Hilton aims to be "Hoops Central" with free admission to the viewing parties held daily in the smoke-free Theater, with food and drink specials and satellite betting stations.
    • Rhumbar at the Mirage never misses an opportunity to party and will be home to daily tailgate parties on its 3,000-square-foot patio and multiple big-screen TVs. Enjoy beer-braised brats, nachos, Miller Light beer specials, and a premium Stoli Bloody Mary bar. Yum!
    • Wife/girlfriend not interested? No need to miss the games -- combine shopping and March Madness at the Miracle Mile Shops, where Blondies Sports Bar & Grill will be screening the games on its giant TVs and offering deals on beers, buckets, and appetizers. Sin City Brewing Company in the same mall will also be entering into the MM madness -- you can even order food from other Miracle Mile restaurants and have it delivered to you at the bar. Plus, don't forget the free SSBC beer coupon in the current LVA MRB.
